After 27 years of service with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department, Police Chief Tony Best retired at the end of 2022. Chief Best began his career in law enforcement with PVE as a service officer. He subsequently served as the department's first motorcycle officer, a canine handler, range master, training sergeant, patrol division commander and police chief. All these roles helped inform his understanding of the vibrant PVE community, and helped shape his much admired leadership. In 2012, Best was promoted to Police Captain.
